Regarding The history of National Iranian Copper Industries Company we can mention the launching of  Sarcheshmeh mine as the country's largest copper mine in 70s where for many years the main focus was not on the development of the manufacturing process but on setting up and increasing the productivity of initial production units. After that various schemes such as Sarcheshmeh leaching plant, development of Sarcheshmeh condensing unit, Khatoonabad smelter, Meyduk copper complex, Sungun copper complex were launched.

In recent years that  have seen the sharp drop in prices for all metals including copper in world market, all main producers of this metal were trying to overtake each other in competition for reducing the last price. Thus, increasing production capacity, increasing human resources productivity and reducing energy consumption and generally reducing final price became the most important factors for all copper producers in this international competition.  In Iran also National Iranian Copper Industries Company as the largest copper producer in the Middle East in order to maintain its position in the global competition and in order to adapt to new market conditions and along with the largest copper producers in the world, put finished price reduction strategies, increase productivity and develop units on its agenda. In this regard, the company that had planned expansion and increase the capacities in the past, stopped some of these projects which didnt have good profit due to dramatic changes in the global markets. The report examines in detail the plans of the company as the largest copper producer in the region. By implementing these projects, the company's copper production increases to 420 thousand tons per year and its concentrate production reaches to 4.1 million tons per year.
Copper industry in Iran is one of the leading industries in the country and given the capacities and huge mineral reserves, it has great potentiality for development. Being located on the global copper belt, Iran has created good opportunity for investors over the years. And continues to the southeast of Iran in Kerman and Sistan and Baluchistan and even in Pakistan and parts of Afghanistan. The southeastern provinces in Iran are the richest copper regions in the Middle East and Asia. In this area copper mines such as Sarcheshmeh, Meiduk, Daraloo, Chah Firoozeh and Darezar has a huge potential for development and exploitation. On the other hand Sistan-Baluchestan province which shares borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan, has numerous copper reserves. It should be noted that the very rich Eynak copper-gold mine, located in Logar province in Afghanistan with 11 million tons of copper is also along this global belt and due to to 30 kilometers distance to the Iranian border it is probable to find similar reserves on this side of the border. Generally it is estimated that over three percent of global copper reserves are located in Iran while important part of mineral reserves in Iran still remains undiscovered.
Before 1972, the copper industry in Iran was limited to sporadic explorations around the country, but in 1972 it experienced a special event. Nationalization of copper industry and establishment of Sarcheshmeh joint-stock company led to aggregation of efforts towards better use of the country's copper reserves. Within two years from the time important and significant achievements were obtained which the extraction and stripping operations as well as the exploitation of dumped sulfur near the crusher were the most important ones. After making these achievement the company considered broader goals for itself and from 1977 it changed its name to National Iranian Copper Industries Company to expand the scope of its activities to all Iranian borders. In this respect also from the production of the first copper in 1982 at a plant until today, Exploiting these capacities and the development of the industry have always been the main national priorities that has been achieved with much effort. Now the National Iranian Copper Industries Company as a leader in this industry in Iran has been able to achieve production of 260 thousand tons of copper and has introduced itself as one of the largest copper producers in the world. In fact, in Iran, main copper industry-related activities, including exploration, extraction, milling, smelting and refining are conducting by this company.
In order to increase production,  due to the great potential in the country, National Iranian Copper Industries Company has always sought to increase itscapacity to move toward greater use of natural resources. Based on development plan by upstream organizations, as well as administrators of the company, the company decided to develop its vast manufacturing units in mining, smelting and refining but required costs to set up these schemes, needs considerable investment. Regarding history of National Iranian Copper Industries Company, we can point to the  establishment of Sarcheshmeh mine as the country's largest copper mine in the 70s. Then various schemes such as leaching plant, development of condensing unit, Khatoonabadismelter, Miduk copper complex, Sungun copper complex were launched. After conducting comprehensive studies, in order to adapt to the global market, a series of new projects approved by the directors of National Iranian Copper Industries Company. In new projects, the target is to produce 420 thousand tons of copper cathodes. Here are some of the highlights of the copmany's projects:

Mining projects and concentrate
In all mineral companies, finding raw material supply is the first step in the implementation of any development plan. Therefore, considering exploration, as well as adequate investment in that field, is a necessity that should be considered to develop the mining industry. On the other hand, the units that engaged in the extraction of minerals, mainly need high amount of initial investment and high running costs. Hence the lack of supply of raw materials or discontinuities in supply will pose very high financial losses. Therefore planning for next rings of the chain, without regard to the supply of raw materials, is not logical. This emphasizes the need to invest in exploration and development of mines.
In National Iranian Copper Industries Company a large portion of the capacities and investments are focused in the mining and mineral processing. That is why the National Copper Corporation has decided to open new mines to add the copper production chain. Mines such as Chehelkureh Zahedan, Deralavi, Chah Firoozeh and Darehzar in Kerman are mines that the company plans to start exploit themin the short term in addition to its large mines such as the Sarcheshmeh, Sungun and Meiduk. With the new mine supply chain, over 21 million tons of sulfide soil, 230 tons concentrates and 250 kilograms of gold will be added to the company's production capacity. With this increase in production which is expected to be achieved over the coming years, concentrates production capacity will reach to 4.1 million tons. In addition, the increased production of molybdenum and anode slime containing valuable metals such as gold and silver, is an achievement that could have lead to the further growth of corporate profits.
Copper melting and refining projects
National Iranian Copper Industries Company, has two smelting and refining units at the Sarcheshmeh and Khatoonabad. Smelter units with a capacity of respectively 120 and 80 thousand tons are working with Reverb and Flash technology. The company intends to increase capacity of Khatoonabadi melting unit from 80 thousand tons to 120 thousand tons and Sarcheshmeh unit from 120 thousand tons to 280 thousand tons of copper anode originated from concentrate and a change of Reverb technology to flash and increasing its melting capacity to 400 thousand tons. New technologies lead to greater control of gas emissions resulting from the smelting of copper concentrate in this complex. One of the projects is recycling copper containing slag of smelters in Khatoon Abad. The vast quantity of slag produced in the smelting units of National Iranian Copper Industries Company, has led the establishment of the slag flotation plant. Thus, National Iranian Copper Company intends to use these resources to build a factory with a production capacity of 73 thousand tons of ore per year at a grade of 26%. The plan for construction of this unit  in the vicinity of Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex   due to the high volume of slag produced at two plants of Sarcheshmeh and Khatoonabadi Made the unit has a a good economic indicators with production capacity of 73 thousand tons of 26% concentrate. National Copper Company is currently in negotiations with several investors to finance the project. Currently the Sarcheshmeh copper refining unit, has a production capacity of 200 thousand tons. Building Khatoonabad refinery is one of the most important plans of the National Iranian Copper Company that its trial production has been started.
Now the volume of acid market in the country is about 800 thousand tons per year which wont have the capacity to attract company's 3.1 million tons of sulfuric acid in the future. National Iranian Copper Industries Company plans to target phosphate fertilizers domestic market to supply of these fertilizers in the domestic market. Now sulfuric acid plant projects in Sarcheshmeh and Khatoonabad is running with cooperation Outotec. Regarding chemical fertilizer unit, the company plans to do substantial investments  through one of the subsidiaries, in order to produce about one million tons of chemical fertilizers needed by the country. And to this end, it is in talks with foreign companies interested in this field.

Considering the numerous projects the company is implementing, EPS supply as well as other infrastructures needed to develop the production process of copper and other ancillary products, Is another development plan of this company. In this regard, the Iranian National Copper Company has attempted to define 4 projects. In addition, the National Copper Company has some projects in progress in social areas such as sports stadiums and roads.
